The first element of the Troia Resort Master Plan, this hotel casino set the design and character tone for the rest of the resort. The ecological focus of the resort is reflected in the use of renewable materials, such as the wooden cladding, and in the articulation of the design through its sun shading elements. A hotel tower, left unfinished since the 1970’s, has been substantially altered and now serves as the project’s dominant structure. At the ground level, the hotel’s entry is set in a daylit and sun-shaded atrium which connects the resort’s main elements: the casino, whose curved walls are wrapped in a wooden skin like the hull of a ship, a fully- equipped theatre connected to the casino, and a conference center. One wall of the conference hall can be open to the natural landscape. At the marina’s façade, the hotel links to the boardwalk, providing a water-facing retail element.
