The design vocabulary of Outlet Park Iruma was inspired by the experience of being in the lush, surrounding forest. The architecture incorporates qualities of the forest’s scale, texture, and rhythm; the softness of the leaves, the particular light that filters through the trees, the play of visual patterns and, eventually, the discovery of inhabitation within a clearing. On the exterior, a series of façade treatments mimic the elegant verticality of the forest. Constructed elements change width and spacing in a subtle manipulation of panels, in which changes in color, graphic representation and in some places, actual vegetation in the form of landscaping, allow a few variations to produce a seemingly infinite set of design details. The rhythmic façade pattern is interrupted by minimalist canopy elements at the main entry points that present a strong contrast to the surrounding texture.
