The design for the 2-level, 2-phase Boulevard Shopping is conceptually based on a whimsical interpretation of Londrina itself, which was founded by British settlers and means “Little London” in Portuguese. Motifs spun off from the iconic Union Jack flag can be found throughout the shopping center, from the bold graphics treatment on the exterior to the finely crafted interior details borrowed from the geometric British image. The site presented a particularly difficult challenge, with an immense grade differential between opposite ends of the site. Parking and additional levels of shopping compensate for the grade difference, along with elegantly-terraced landscaping leading to the street level. Additionally, the shopping center is connected to a civic center through a heavily-landscaped pedestrian promenade. The construction of the 2-level center will be rolled out in two phases.
