As an expansion to a highly viable shopping center, the design of Iguatemi had to be carefully integrated with the elements that define the center, while providing an innovative solution that will ensure the viability of the center’s brand for years to come. The solution was to create a loop by connecting the ends of the L-shape arrangement, thus forming a large central public garden. The garden is then enclosed and conditioned, but the design of the roof allows the court to take on an exterior feel as though being under a large Pergola. Carefully filtered natural daylight filters through the skylights and the continuous clerestory, accentuating the exterior feeling of the Garden Court. Located adjacent to the Garden Court and above the existing anchor store structure is a unique “restaurant court” that creates another exciting public space that breathes further life into the center.
